Sting Performs at First Euro 2012 Stadium in Poland to Unveil New Stadium Which is Host to Games

Renowned British pop sensation Sting, performed mightily at the opening ceremony of the new football stadium in Poznan, western Poland. This is one of the first of four venues to host matches in the 2012 European football championships.

 

Sting, who is on tour throughout Europe, appeared with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra conducted by Steven Mercurio, before an audience of some 30,000 people, as part of a tour promoting his new album Symphonicity, garnering great reviews.

 

The three other Poland’s stadiums to host Euro 2012 matches (in Warsaw, Gdansk and Wroclaw) are due to open before the end of July next year.

Before the show, Poznan's deputy Mayor Tomasz Kayser was quoted as saying, "for us, it will be the first test of how to deal with traffic in the city in a Euro 2012 setting," The three remaining stadiums set to host matches are due to open one by one before the end of August next year. They are located in the Baltic port of Gdansk, the capital Warsaw and the southwestern city of Wroclaw.
