Liverpool Football Club is a professional football club based in Liverpool, England. Founded in 1892, the club plays in the Premier League, and it is one of the most successful clubs in the history of English football, having won more trophies than any other English club, including a record 18 First Division titles, seven League Cups and five European Cups.

Liverpool FC's home stadium is Anfield, where they have played since the club's inception, but plans to move to a new stadium in Stanley Park. Liverpool FC's original uniform colors were red and white, becoming all-red in the mid 1960s. The club was the first in British professional history to have a sponsor's logo on their shirts, Liverpool FC's crest depicts the city's liver bird, inside a shield, above which there is a representation of the Shankly Gates with the title of club's famous anthem, "You'll Never Walk Alone" and twin flames on either side.

 

 

Liverpool's success was overshadowed by the 1989 Hillsborough Disaster, which saw 96 fans trampled to death at an FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest, held at Hillsborough Stadium. It remains the deadliest stadium-related disaster in British history and one of the worst in international football. The twin flames on the club's crest symbolize the Hillsborough memorial outside Anfield Stadium, where an eternal flame burns in memory of those who died in the disaster.

 

 

Liverpool is owned by George Gillett and Tom Hicks, who acquired the club on 6 February 2007 from previous chairman David Moores for £218.9 million.

In 2008, Forbes Magazine ranked Liverpool FC as the fourth most valuable football team in the world, after Manchester United, Real Madrid and Arsenal.
