The stadium, which has a capacity of over 72,000, is the second largest of its kind in Italy, with only San Siro able to seat more. After an inconsistent performance in the 1930s, AS Roma returned to form with an unexpected title win of their first ever Scudetto title in the 1941–42 season. The 1950s were wobbly, seeing the club drop to Series B at one point, but after returning to Series A in the mid 1950s, AS Roma managed to stabilize its position as a top club again. The club went on to win their second Coppa Italia trophy in 1968–69. The 1970s saw sporadic Series A performance by AC Roma, with third place being the best ranking the club achieved, in the 1974–75 season.
