Muse

The UK band Muse has been performing together for a decade and a half. While some groups see their members come and go, the founding members of Muse – Matt Bellamy – lead vocals, piano, and guitar; Chris Wolstenholme – bass, backing vocals, and keyboards; and Dominic Howard – drums, percussion, synthesizers – are still the faces and voices behind Muse today.

Muse, known for a musical style that fuses a wide variety of genres, including classical music and heavy metal, has released five full-length studio albums, starting with Showbiz in 1999. The debut was followed by the Origin of Symmetry in 2001; Absolution in 2003; Black Holes and Revelations in 2006, which was ranked third in the NME Albums of the Year and earned the band a Mercury Prize nomination; and The Resistance in 2009.

For much of their career, Muse has enjoyed much greater popularity in Europe than in the US. That began to change when their songs were included on the soundtracks to the hugely popular Twilight film franchise. Although the band expressed some reservations about their music's association with Twilight, they could not deny that the vampire films gave them an in to the large and lucrative US market, which took a while to warm up to the band's music.

The band has performed at many of the world's preeminent music festivals, including the Glastonbury Festival and the Coachella Festival, where they headlined in 2010 and where – gossip alert! – Matt Bellamy became smitten with actress Kate Hudson.
